Monaghan is to join the Iraqi Kurdistan-focused operator before Metherell’s departure on 21 April, London-listed Genel Energy said.
Most recently head of Europe, Middle East and Africa oil & gas investment banking, Monaghan has worked in JP Morgan’s oil & gas division for 20 years.
The switch comes as London-listed Genel Energy reduces capital expenditure plans for 2015 by 30% amid low oil prices, mounting receivables owed by the KRG and an unsuccessful exploration campaign off Morocco, Angola and Malta.
