China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)-owned service provider Greatwall Drilling is stepping into Indonesia’s non-conventional sector as it gears up to spud a number of geothermal wells at two blocks.

Company officials told Upstream on the sidelines of the OGA 2019 conference in Kuala Lumpur that Greatwall will soon deploy two land rigs for a campaign at the Sorki Malapi and Sokoria blocks in Mandailing, Sumatra.

It will be the company’s first venture into drilling geothermal wells in Indonesia, which is home to the world’s largest untapped geothermal energy reserves.
