Stena admitted guilt in a charge claiming it breached the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006, specifically failing in its duty to take “all reasonably practicable steps to implement and maintain systems of work that were safe and without risk to health”.
The charges were brought against Stena after Australian regulator the National Offshore Petroleum Safety & Environmental Management Authority (Nopsema) carried out an investigation into the incident which resulted in the deaths of two crew members.
