The Magistrates’ Court of Western Australia convicted Hammelmann and fined it A$20,000 (US$14,563) for breaching its duty of care as a manufacture of equipment.
The prosecution related to an accident in March 2011 which resulted in a diver suffering a serious arm injury while operating high-pressure subsea water-blasting equipment supplied by Hammelmann.
The diver was using an underwater jet gun when the retro diffuser tube became detached from the gun allowing the full force of the retro jet to penetrate the diver’s arm.
