The New South Wales government announced plans earlier this year to tighten restrictions on CBM exploration, including a ban on all CBM activities within two kilometres of residential areas.
In September last year the government also introduced regulations aimed at protecting prime agricultural land and water resources.
Speaking at the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association conference in Brisbane, Queensland, Hartcher defended the government’s tough stance which has seen a number of companies withdraw from their CBM activities since the new regulation was introduced.
