Joint venture partner Kina Petroleum revealed Thursday the Kwila-1 well had reached a depth of 1000 metres and wireline logs had been run.
It said several porous, deep sandstones had been intersected but no movable gas had been observed in the well.
While it was decided no zones in the well warranted testing, Kina said slightly higher gas saturations were noted within the deeper sands which could be the cause of the anomaly recognised on seismic data and previously thought to be a hydrocarbon effect.
