Hoegh LNG is looking to bolster its position in the floating storage and regasification unit sector through a new organisational structure to be headed by an internal appointment.

The Norwegian liquefied natural gas contractor’s new operations division will be responsible for the technical and commercial management of all of the company’s assets that are in operation.

Vegard Hellekleiv, previously chief technology officer, has been appointed chief operating officer to lead the new division. In his place steps Oivin Iversen, previously head of FLNG activities.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, chief executive Sveinung Stohle said: "We have been very successful in growing our FSRU business, with currently six FSRUs and two LNGCs in operation, and we have another three FSRU projects coming on stream the next 18 months; in Ghana, Pakistan and Chile.

“Höegh LNG is the leading company in the FSRU segment, and we have a clear objective to further strengthen our position in this market.”

The company currently has six FSRUs and a pair of LNG carriers in operation, with two more FSRUs under construction. It has ambitions to have a total of 12 FSRUs in operation and under construction by 2019 as it also looks at vessel conversions.

It has FSRU projects coming onstream in the next 18 months: in Ghana, with Quantum Power Ghana Gas at the Tema LNG terminal ; in Pakistan, with the Global Energy Infrastructure Ltd’s (Geil) project in Port Qasim near Karachi; and Chile, with the Penco-Lirquen LNG terminal project, which is being developed by Octopus LNG in Chile’s Concepcion Bay.

“In order to optimise the way we work we are therefore adapting our organisation to further improve our performance and competitive position,” Stohle said.
