The company reported the incident to the Government of Saskatchewan on Thursday morning after an oil sheen was spotted on the river about 30 kilometres east of Husky's heavy oil operations in Lloydminster.
Husky spokesman Mel Duvall said the Saskatchewan Gathering System was carrying oil mixed with diluent from its heavy oil operations to its processing facilities at Lloydminster.
The pipeline was immediately shut in and Husky initiated its emergency response plan.
