The estimated C$16.2-billion (US$12.1 billion) Mackenzie Gas Project was initially approved in 2010 with a sunset clause requiring Imperial and its partners to begin construction on the Mackenzie Valley pipeline and Mackenzie gathering system by December 2015.
Last year, Imperial asked the National Energy Board (NEB) and the Northwest Territories’ regulator of oil and gas to extend the project approval to 2022.
