The operator of the field in the Masela block in the Arafura Sea said on Monday it had “received a notification from Indonesian government authorities instructing (it) to re-propose a plan of development based on onshore LNG”.

It comes after Indonesian President Joko Widodo last month shot down Inpex and partner Shell’s proposal for a floating LNG development at Abadi.

“The company will carefully examine the contents of the notification, and intends to work closely with the Indonesian government authorities aiming for the early start-up of development,” Inpex said, which suggests the company is willing to go along with an onshore development.
