The ill-fated unit, named Alexander L Kielland, collapsed into the sea when one of its five legs snapped in heavy seas at the North Sea field, which was then operated by the former Phillips Petroleum before being acquired by present operator ConocoPhillips.
Apart from those killed in the accident on 27 March 1980, another 30 personnel have never been found while 89 workers were rescued.
