About 11 barrels (18 litres) of fluids were released from the semisub Transocean Henry Goodrich on Friday morning during drilling operations on a North Amethyst well at the Central Drill Centre of the main White Rose field, a Husky spokeswoman told Upstream via email.

The release caused a rapid drop in pressure, activating the rig's blowout preventer (BOP).

"The BOP functioned as intended and secured the well," according to a release from the Canada-Newfoundland & Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.
