Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell expects global energy demand to effectively double by the middle of the century compared to where it was at the start of the century.

Demand over the last decade had been primarily driven by customers in Japan, South Korea and Europe.

“Looking forward we expect the majority of that growth demand will be in places like South East Asia, Europe and China in particular,” head of Shell Eastern Petroleum’s global gas strategy and portfolio team, Stefan Vos de Wael, told delegates at the LNG 18 conference in Perth on Tuesday
