The Plaquemines Parish council voted on Thursday night 5-1 to dismiss the suit, reversing course from the initial action that had been filed in 2012, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
A number of other similar proceedings remain pending throughout the state, however.
The move is a setback for lawyers and environmentalists who had pushed the move, hailing the latest development as another example of politicians caving to powerful oil interests.
