The well, located on licence PM307, will target hydrocarbons in Miocene-aged sands 75 kilometres to the north-west of the Lundin-operated field.
Mengkuang-1 will be drilled with the jack-up rig West Prospero to a total depth of about 1300 metres below mean sea level, Lundin said in a statement.
The drilling of the well is expected to take around 30 days, the company added.
