Former resources minister Ian Macfarlane lost his frontbench position after Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull unveiled his new look cabinet over the weekend following last week's leadership challenge.
Turnbull ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott last week after issuing a leadership challenge and winning the subsequent party room vote 54 to 44.
Macfarlane backed Turnbull in the vote but on Sunday the Prime Minister revealed he would be replaced by Christopher Pyne on the frontbench as the new Industry Minister.
Pyne will not oversee the resources and energy portfolio however, with Turnbull instead choosing to appoint Josh Frydenberg, who backed Abbott in the vote, as the new Minister for Resources, Energy & Northern Australia.
