The giant rig, owned by Maersk Drilling, will drill three production wells in a water depth of 110 metres at the North Sea field, adding to those already drilled by another unit.

Drilling is scheduled to start in late November and expected to be completed by July 2017, with the field due to be brought online in December this year.

The so-called XL Enhanced jack-up, which has previously been drilling exploration and appraisal wells in the area, is working for Det Norske under a $700 million firm five-year contract, with two one-year extension options, at a dayrate of $383,500.
