Christopher Daley was found guilty of four counts of fraud in a US federal court in Houston last week. His sentencing is scheduled for 3 January and he faces up to 80 years in prison, according to court documents.
Prosecutors are also seeking forfeiture of $1.6 million.
Daley carried out the plot from June 2010 to November 2011, according to a September 2015 indictment.
