The company did not disclose if any money changed hands during the expansion from its existing 1109 hectare-holding in the Nash Dome field, making the project its largest land holding.
Reserves on that 1109 hectare holding were recently identified at about 50.6 million barrels in proved and probable reserves.
Maverick said new field play oil sands found by the Groce 181 well in the Vicksburg formation as well as a documented salt overhang in Nash Dome had contributed to its decision to expand the company holdings.
