US contractor McDermott International has acquired the newly built pipelay and construction vessel Ceona Amazon, confirming a previous Upstream report this week.
McDermott said on Tuesday that its new acquisition will "better position it for ultra-deepwater and SURF projects", two areas in which the company is planning to expand its business.
Last week, Upstream reported the group was poised to buy the vessel out of administration from UK contractor Ceona for just over $50 million.
