The Hokchi-2 well is located in the south-east basin and is the first of four set to be drilled by PAE in the area it won during Mexico's Round 1.2 last year, according to Mexico's National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH).
Drilling and completion work is set to begin on 2 October and wrap up by 9 February of next year.
"It is important because it is the first that has been presented to this commission from an operator other than Pemex," commissioner Gaspar Franco Hernandez said at a meeting in which the CNH voted to approve the well.
