The Kazakh-focused explorer said on Tuesday that it encountered oil and gas shows while drilling the BCHW-3 probe in the eastern portion of the Baichonas West field on Block E. However, electric logs indicated insufficient hydrocarbons to justify a commercial development.
The well will be plugged and abandoned.
Following those operations, Max expects to move the drilling rig Zhanros ZJ-20 to spud the first appraisal well on Block E’s Eskene North field, ESKN-2.
