The class action launched on behalf of Indonesian seaweed farmers against Thailand’s national upstream company PTTEP relating to the 2009 Montara oil spill off Australia has started in the Federal Court in Sydney.

The class action of behalf of some 15,5000 seaweed farmers from East Nusa Tenggara province is seeking compensation of more than A$200 million (US$136.7 million) from PTTEP for the claimed hit to their livelihoods by the damage allegedly caused by the crude and chemical dispersants used on the spill .
