MPU said a joint venture of Dutch companies Van Hattum en Blankevoort (VHB) and BAM Civiel (BAM) would build the hull, starting in the third quarter of 2007.

Keppel Verolme, a unit of Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine, already has a contract to outfit and equip the giant vessel.

The semi-submersible vessel will be used for the decommissioning of oil and gas platforms worldwide.
