Tests at the new field, called Bach Ho Northeast-19, showed the crude oil has an API gravity of 41, the Hanoi Moi daily quoted Vietsovpetro as saying.
The report said Vietsovpetro, a 50/50 joint venture between PetroVietnam and Russian state oil company Zarubezhneft, intends to start up commercial production at the new discovery soon.
Output from Bach Ho, averaging 125,000 barrels per day now, is expected to decline gradually, prompting the operator to step up exploration in adjacent areas to find new deposits, Reuters reported citing PetroVietnam’s officials.
