Responders were called out just before 3 pm Tuesday to a drillsite southeast of Carlsbad after David Duran, 23, of Artesia, fell from a rig platform 26 feet off the ground, according to the Eddy County Sheriff's Office.
Responders on-scene tried resuscitation efforts to no avail and he was pronounced dead at the site.
Duran worked for Wilbanks of Artesia, which was contracted by Devon Energy for work at the site.
