It follows exhaustive testing carried out by Chinese-owned contractor COSL Drilling Europe of a model of the rig to reproduce sea conditions that resulted in a monster wave smashing into the accommodation module of the unit, killing a worker in his cabin, in the incident late last year.
A total of 260 tests involving a 1:40 scale model of the rig equipped with a pressure sensor to measure wave impact have been performed this summer in a wave pool at the Marintek test centre of Norwegian research institute Sintef in Trondheim, Upstream’s sister publication Dagens Naeringsliv reported.
