The 2016 block offer includes one onshore and four offshore release areas which offer up exploration opportunities in proven producing areas as well as frontier regions where little exploration has taken place.
The onshore release area covers 1062 square kilometres in the the Taranaki basin, while the government has also released a 60,978 square kilometre offshore area in the basin.
Also on the menu is 186,181 square kilometres in the Northland-Reinga basin, 68,662 square kilometres in the Pegasus and East Coast basins, as well as 208,632 square kilometres in the Great-South and Canterbury basins.
