In a statement, Nord Stream said the wreck was found in Finland’s exclusive economic zone in the Gulf of Finland.
Nord Stream said it had notified the authorities, including the Finnish Defence Forces, of the find.
DOF Subsea is carrying out the survey as part of an environmental impact assessment the consortium must present to the Finnish government for approval.
The survey follows concerns raised by the planned pipe's neighbours - Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden - about the proposed route for the 1200-kilometre subsea link.
