Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Soviknes has inadvertently misinformed the country’s parliament about the economics of Eni’s troubled Goliat oilfield, which was brought on stream last year in the Barents Sea.

Soviknes told parliament last week that all investments on the Goliat field will be paid back by 2019/2020, but the Ministry of Petroleum & Energy has since admitted the initial calculation was flawed.

Upstream has learned that the project will not be paid back until 2022, excluding a discount rate of 7% that Norway applies to oil and gas projects.
