The company is now awaiting approval from Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulator, SKKMigas, to launch early production and gas sales.
NuEnergy said on Wednesday that it recorded gas flows from Pilot Well-2 during the finalisation of well completions.
The probe lies about half a kilometre from Pilot Well-1, which has been producing gas for more than 300 days.
Pilot Well-2 was drilled to a total depth of 802 metres last month and hit 46 metres of net coalbeds, with logs of the Suban J coalbed confirming 13 metres of continuous coal.
