Joint venture partner Santos said in its latest quarterly report that the initial results from the Bestari-2 well were "in-line with expectations and further evaluation will be carried out over the coming year"
No further detail was provided, and the operator JX Nippon was not available for comment.
Santos reminded that the Bestari-1 discovery well was drilled in March 2015 and hit 67 metres of net oil pay in multiple sand packages with good porosity and permeability.
