Oil Search and its partner ExxonMobil have made a gas discovery at their latest onshore well in Papua New Guinea.

The duo struck "high-quality sandstone reservoirs" at the Muruk-1 exploration well on petroleum prospecting licence 402 in PNG's North Highland area, ExxonMobil said on Wednesday.

Although the US supermajor gave no indication of the size of the find, it said that the shows were similar to those at the nearby Hides gas field and were "in line with pre-drill expectations".
