The company reported last Friday that gas shows were discovered in two sand intervals measuring 51 metres and 21 metres gross thickness, respectively.
However, Oil Search said on Tuesday that log evaluations found the intervals to be water-bearing with only minor gas saturations.
Despite this, the well is understood to have de-risked one of the main uncertainties in the basin-floor fan sandstone play, confirming the broader potential of the Pleistocene stratigraphic level in the Gulf of Papua.
