The state player started flowing oil at a rate of about 2000 barrels per day from the MR-8A probe at the project on the Maari field off the Taranaki coast on Friday, it revealed on Monday.
The well, which was drilled as a sidetrack to an abandoned water injector, and will now gradually be ramped up to an estimated 4500 bpd.
