The Bestari-1 discovery in Block R hit 67 metres of net oil pay in multiple sand packages within the Miocene-aged primary objectives.
The oil bearing sands were of high quality with good porosity and permeability.
Two more wells were then drilled in Block R - Lawa-1 and Menawan-1 - but both were plugged and abandoned as dry wells, said Santos.
Block R is located off Sabah in water depths ranging from 100 metres to 1400 metres.
