Sources said the putative deal, signed in Beijing on Monday, will likely see the drillship Tiger 1 deployed in the US Gulf of Mexico for a drilling campaign for five years at an unnamed field.
“It is a long-term contract,” said a source, though adding the caveat that the “contract” may not be firm.
Opus president Liu Shaohua earlier told Upstream that his company is working on a new strategy that would turn it into an operator contracted to provide whole development packages for oil and gas companies.
