The Kalala S-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 2619 metres in EP 98 and confirmed the presence of a thick Middle Velkerri source rock sequence in a highly prospective gas mature depth window.
The well hit a gross shale gas interval of over 500 metres with net pay of more than 150 metres and Falcon said the presence of movable hydrocarbons had been recorded in the form of elevated gas shows.
It also stated that good quality sandy/silty reservoir sections measuring between 50 and 80 meters in thickness had been intersected and were potential candidates for horizontal drilling.
