Joint venture partner Falcon Oil & Gas revealed Tuesday that drilling had started on the Amungee NW-1 well which will target the Middle Velkerri formation.
Amungee NW-1 is expected to take between 35 and 50 days to drill and is the second well in the joint venture's 2015 three-well exploration campaign.
It is being drilled about 25 kilometres east of the first well, Kalala S-1, which hit a gross shale gas interval of over 500 metres with net pay of more than 150 metres.
Origin holds a 35% operated interest in EP 98, with Sasol also on 35% and Falcon holding the remaining 30% equity.
