Origin said it would drill the vertical well on exploration permit VIC/P43 to a total depth of 2559 metres using semi-submersible drilling rig Stena Clyde.
The well will be plugged and abandoned following completion of the company’s planned evaluation programme over the Thistle drilling area.
As Upstream reported late last year, Origin plans to drill up to six wells in the Otway basin over the next two years in a bid to find new reserves close to its existing Thylacine platform.
