Petroleum Exploration Licence 442. which covers an onshore stretch of coastal land south fo Sydney, including most of suburban Wollongong, expired on 29 February 2012 and was not renewed, project partner Ormil Energy told the Australian Securities Exchange.
The permit was one of three Apex permits in which Ormil had signed a deal in 2010 to earn a 50% stake, with Ormil having won approval to drill nine exploratory holes across it in 2009, the Illawarra Mercury reported.
