Otto revealed the drillship Maersk Venturer had started drilling the Hawkeye-1 exploration well late on Friday.
As of Monday, the well was at a depth of 2449 metres and preparations were under way to cement a 20-inch casing string.
Otto then plans to connect the blow-out preventer to the wellhead before drilling ahead towards the primary target reservoir which it expects intersect in roughly two weeks.
