Outdated welding 'root cause' of Pegasus spill

Defects traced back to construction in the 1940s of ExxonMobil's Pegasus pipeline were the root cause of the breach that led to a spill of some 5000 barrels of heavy oil into a suburban neighbourhood in Arkansas earlier this year, the US supermajor said on Friday.
