The US independent reported a net loss of $139 million in the three months to the end of June, down from a profit a year earlier of $176 million.
Net sales tumbled to $1.63 billion from $2.34 billion as average oil and gas prices continued to fall.
The pre-tax loss from oil and gas operations was $117 million, down from a profit a year ago of $355 million.
