Parente, 63, will replace Aldemir Bendine, who served as Petrobras' chief executive for the last 15 months.
The appointment comes as Petrobras stuggles with towering debt and a sprawling corruption scandal.
It mark's Temer's first major move at the state-run oil company since he took over on an interim basis following the suspension of President Dilma Rousseff. The nation's Senate is deciding whether to ratify the President's impeachment.
