The well finished operations on 30 December after reaching a total depth of 5780 metres (18,963 feet), according to data from the country's National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH).
The probe, which began drilling in late August, had targeted both oil and gas but was ultimately classified as "unproductive."
The well was seen as a "truly exploratory" test in a frontier basin, seeking to pursue extensions of the Wilcox formation in the subsalt belt of the Perdido area.
