The discovery, located on Block BM-S-8, has been billed as one of the most exciting in the pre-salt province, but the appraisal well was delayed by operational problems on a first attempt.
Under the revised drilling strategy, Petrobas will use the Queiroz Galvao Oil & Gas-owned drillship Laguna Star to drill as far as the salt canopy. The state player will then bring in a rig fitted with managed pressure-drilling capacity in 2015 in order to drill through the salt and into the tough carbonate reservoir, according to a statement by Queiroz Galvao Exploracao e Producao (QGEP), one of the consortium partners.
