The field in the Muriah block some 180 kilometres north-east of Semarang is expected to produce 116 million cubic feet per day of gas.
Petronas holds an 80% stake in the production sharing contract, with Saka Energi Muriah holding the remaining 20%.
A ceremony to mark first gas was held in Gresik, East Java, with Petronas also toasting the start of oil and gas production at the Bukit Tua field on the Ketapang block.
