The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) sees that exploiting the Liguasan Marsh could reduce the country's oil imports from the Middle East.
The DENR is conducting a study on potential exploration prospects in the area.
Central Mindanao National Economic Development Authority 12 chief Lourdes Lim told local media: "If the project turns successful, it will dramatically decrease the government's importation of oil from Arab nations.
