In his opening speech at World Gas Conference, Pouyanne stressed that the country has the most important gas reserves in the world and remains an essential partner for Europe.
Total has been betting on partnership with Russia, with France and Germany opting for diplomatic solutions of "current difficulties", he said on Tuesday.
Speaking at sidelines of the Paris event, Pouyanne added that the company is "concentrated" on bringing online the first phase of Yamal LNG, currently scheduled to ship its first cargo of liquefied natural gas from the port of Sabetta on the Yamal Peninsula in West Siberia some time in 2017.
